How does the P3fax scheduler count logged on users
12 February 2008
Each P3fax licence key determines the maximum number of users that can be logged onto the system at any one time. If more than the licensed number of users attempt to log on then The maximum number of users allowed on the system has already been reached will be reported.
You can see the number of concurrent users and devices/channels supported by your P3fax licence by clicking the Upgrade link in the Admin menu section of any P3fax webpage while logged onto P3fax as an Administrator level user.
Users log onto P3fax in several ways:
- Via the web browser interface.
- Via P3console.
- Via a third party email application that connects to P3fax’s POP3 mail server to download received messages into the email application.
Each such connection will remain logged onto the Scheduler as follows:
- Web Browser connections remain logged on until:
- The user clicks the Logoff link in the Main section of a P3fax webpage.
- 120 minutes after the web browser is closed without clicking the Logoff link.
- 120 minutes of complete inactivity through the P3fax web browser interface (no clicking of any links or refreshing of pages, either manually or automatically)
- P3console connections remain logged on until P3console is closed.
- If a third party email application connects to the POP3 server presented by the P3fax installation to download received messages then that connection is deemed to be active until 5 minutes after the POP3 connection was last used.
Users connected through 1 or 2 above can be seen via the web browser interface by clicking the Users link in the Setup menu section of any P3fax webpage.
If The maximum number of users allowed on the system has already been reached is reported when you do not think that too many users are connected then it may be that users logging onto P3fax via the web browser aren’t clicking the Logoff link in the Main menu section of any P3fax webpage before closing the web browser window or that users are checking their P3fax POP3 mailbox using a third party email application too often.
