P3fax 1.0.8.0 Released

17 August 2007

Unimessage P3fax version 1.0.8.0 installer is now available for download.

This installer can be used to install a new copy of P3fax or to update an existing installation of P3fax.

This version includes many improvements and updates but the primary changes are as follows:

  • Support for Windows Vista and Windows x64 included.
  • Can run, depending on the Windows and/or web-browser language capability, in up to 18 languages (Simplified Chinese, Czech, Danish, German, English, Spanish, Finnish, French, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish).
  • P3console significantly updated.
    • New user interface: Improved toolbar, Preferences dialog, improved thumbnail view, improved page viewer, new annotation function, improved P3fax logon functions.
    • New File, Add to image file menu and equivalent toolbar button on the P3console Send dialog to add the image pages to an existing or new image file - useful when combining multiple items printed to the P3 Printer into a single image file.
    • New Resolution and Paper width selections on the P3console Send Options dialog to specify the resolution and paper width at which the message should be sent (if possible) to fax numbers.
    • Pressing Esc while the Page Viewer window is open now closes the Page Viewer window.
    • Alt+S now available on the P3console Send dialog to Send to message.
    • Alt+I (or Ctrl+O) now available on the P3console Send dialog to insert another file.
    • In P3console's Send, Options dialog Earliest date and Latest date are changed to Send after and Send before respectively - so as to be consistent with the terminology used in the P3fax web interface.
    • Improved Drag and Drop support:
      • Drag an image file from Windows Explorer to the P3console application's background to open the dropped image as a new file in P3console.
      • Drag an image file from Windows Explorer to an image file already open in P3console to add the dropped image to the open image file at the point it is dropped.
      • Select (using Ctrl or Shift and click or click and drag to enclose) and then drag to re-order pages within an open multipage image file.
      • Select (using Ctrl or Shift and click or click and drag to enclose) and then drag to another image file also open in P3console to move pages between image files.
  • Outward polling (subject to use of a suitable fax device) supported via the New Poll link in the Main menu section of the P3fax web interface.
  • Supports up to 33.6kbps (Super G3) fax transmission and reception when used with the Multitech MT5634ZBA fax modem.
  • Each P3fax user can define a signature to be automatically included in any message they create via the P3fax web interface via the User link in the Setup menu section.
  • P3fax Scheduler and Portal logging can now be activated via the P3fax web interface by selecting System Settings from the Admin menu section.
  • The port through which inward SMTP mail connections to P3fax are made (to submit jobs from 3rd party email applications) can now be edited via the P3fax web interface by selecting System Settings from the Admin menu section so that Portal.INI doesn't need to be edited directly. This port number is now also relayed to P3console so that it can continue to connect to P3fax to submit new jobs.
  • Administrators are no longer permitted to lower their own privilege level, so it is no longer possible to produce a system with no Administrator level P3fax users.
  • Additional Routing Rule and Find condition: Email Account is/is not.
  • When defining Send Before or Send After and Send Between settings via the P3fax New Message page's Options function feedback as to the earliest time at which the message could be attempted is now provided. A warning is also given if the settings defined would mean the message could never be attempted.
  • Improved support for the Safari web-browser running on Apple Mac OS X to, for example, avoid the From column in the Inbox folder being compressed to no width.
  • Fixed: When sending a message to many recipients, e.g. > 450, an image conversion error 538 might have been reported.
  • Fixed: If deleting many messages from one folder quickly, e.g. 2200 messages at 200 a page, after completing the process the folder's counters or items/unread items might be incorrect and on restarting P3fax some deleted items might reappear.
  • Fixed: If the Print program was run as part of a routing rule applied to sent email messages then each line of the message body could be cropped.
  • Improvements have been made to the way that long entries in the various P3fax menu sections on the left-hand side of each P3fax page used to sometimes create scroll bars for those individual sections.
  • The P3group system tray icon's right-click menu now displays as a more conventional cascaded menu.
  • Fixed: When forwarding a received email message the details of the original email inserted into the body of the forwarded email includes a date which is not localised to the current time zone.
  • The Subject column on the P3fax Find Results page is widened so more text is visible.
  • An additional toolbar icon to toggle the list between All and Personal entries is now shown for P3fax Administrators when viewing the list of cover sheets via the Coversheets link in the Setup menu section.
  • The note reading Please note only .BMP, .JPG, .FAX, .TIF and .PNG file types will be sent to fax recipients. already displayed above the Upload and Browse buttons at the bottom of the New Message P3fax web-page is now shown in bold and on a new line, so that it is more obvious to users.
  • Fixed: The P3 Printer did not work correctly if the Unimessage Pro printer was also installed on the same PC.
  • Improvements are made to the way in which multiple page images are retrieved from the P3fax image store so that the first page can be displayed while the subsequent pages are still being retrieved.
  • Improvements to the way in which P3fax web pages appear when using the Firefox web browser.
  • The Class 2 and 2.0 compatible fax device driver is updated to 32-bit.
  • The C2 device driver can scale fax paper widths and resolutions to match the settings supported by both the sending and receiving devices, a setting to enable/disable this function is provide as an advanced property for C2 devices.
  • Previously if a none image file (i.e. not BMP, JPG, FAX, TIF or PNG) was attached to a new outbound message that to be sent to a fax number then the none image files were attached and the remaining parts were sent to the fax number, but it wasn't necessarily apparent that this had happened. Now if an outbound message is addressed to any fax number (even if it is also addressed to email addresses) and it has a none image file attached then the message is not sent to any recipients.
  • Date and times associated with jobs and routing rules are now consistently stored in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) format so as to be time zone independent.
  • The transmission history page for a sent message now expands to use the available space if the window in which it is displayed is maximised.
  • When detecting devices using the P3fax Find Devices component the first detected device is auto-selected so that the user can simply click the Next button to advance with the found device selected.
  • Fixed: sending a message to exactly 475 recipients (e.g. To=275xFAX + 100xEmails AND Cc=50xEmails AND Bcc=50xEmails) creates a timeout error page.
  • When image files are attached to messages sent to fax numbers the image file is converted into a fax page. Previously the image was either converted pixel to pixel (so a 96 pixel wide 96dpi image sent at 200dpi would produce an image approximately half its original width) or scaled to the full page. A third alternative is now available whereby the dpi of the image is considered so that the image is converted to a fax page at the same physical size as the original image - if the original image doesn't note a dpi then 96dpi is presumed.
  • The Windows firewall is patched during P3 installation to suppress the prompts to allow P3 related components to communicate, these patches are removed if P3 is subsequently uninstalled.
  • An additional page is now displayed during installation so that any purchased P3fax licence key (to replace the built-in 30-day evaluation key) may be entered. Note that a live Internet connection is required to activate the entered licence key.
  • Improvements to the image server crash recovery system are included so that connections from users and devices in force before any such crash are automatically reinstated as the image server restarts.
  • Any "Please note that no checks will be performed until an email capable device is logged on" message displayed on the Mail Accounts page now links to the Devices page so that if clicked the user is taken to the Devices page where they can create or launch a suitable email device driver.
  • Improvements are made to the way that files attached to sent or received messages are represented so that the list wraps at the browsers right-hand border rather than generating a horizontal scroll bar.
  • User created shared folders are no longer hidden when the Display personal folders option is set to No on the P3fax page displayed via the Options link in the Main menu section.
  • Fixed: If a C1 or C2 device driver was logged on then logged off 10 times in a single Windows session then it would not thereafter send messages correctly (the device page shows the message in process, but the outbox shows the message as pending).
  • Improvements to the scheduler detection function are included in P3console, Find Devices, Device Launcher and DevX related to a PC with no LAN connection.
  • Brief hints as to the purpose of the various device driver settings are now displayed if the mouse is hovered over the grey "?" icon on the Device Properties page.
  • Fixed: When the web browser's width is reduced the columns in the right-hand pane of the P3fax display (e.g. "To" and "Subject") can become obscured by columns further to the right (e.g. "Submitted").
  • Fixed: If the "?" at the right-hand side of the header line for the Shared Outbox was clicked an error was displayed rather than the appropriate help file.
  • The C1 and C2 device drivers now display a more meaningful name when the mouse is hovered over their system tray icons, previously they displayed an 8 digit number.
  • Fixed: A horizontal line was drawn beneath the header line of text when sending a fax message without a cover sheet.
  • The URL to visit to logon to P3fax via a web browser is changed to http://ipaddress:portnumber/pub/logon.htm.
  • Unless over-installed onto an earlier P3fax installation, P3fax data is now stored in the Application Data folder structure rather than the Program Files folder structure.

    Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\Wordcraft\P3fax

    Other Windows: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Wordcraft\P3fax
