Creating a shortcut to automatically log into P3fax's web browser interface

09 October 2008

The P3fax installer will create a shortcut that can be used to log into P3fax using your web browser, but you are required to enter a username and password then click the "Logon" button.

It is possible to create a shortcut that includes your P3fax username and password so that when you select it you are automatically logged into P3fax. To create such a shortcut do the following:

  1. Right-click where (e.g. the desktop) you want to create the new shortcut and select "New" then "Shortcut".
  2. Set the "target" for the shortcut as follows:
  3. http://ip_address:port/pub/up.cgi?cmd=sLogon&User=MANAGER&Password=
Where "ip_address" is the IP address of the PC where P3fax is installed and running - if you are creating a shortcut on the PC where P3fax is itself installed and running you can specify "localhost" instead of a specific IP address. Where "port" is the port through which P3's web browser communicates, default 3080
The above would log on user MANAGER who has no password, naturally you should change the parameters as appropriate for your P3fax username and password. Note that case (UPPER or lower) is important for "cmd=sLogon", "User" and "Password" as well as the actual password itself if you append that to the string.
  4. Click the Next button.
  5. Enter a suitable name for the new shortcut.
  6. Click the Finish button.
